
EMDR is one of the most intensively researched methods of trauma therapy in the world, one whose efficacy has been proved time and time again. It was developed in California by Dr Francine Shapiro. Originally intended for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), EMDR is today successfully used in many other areas.
EMDR is a scientifically proven approach that helps individuals process (de-sensitise) traumatic memories and reduce the emotional distress associated with them. EMDR uses guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation while the individual recalls distressing memories, which can assist with both the processing and desensitisation of these memories; thus reducing their emotional charge.
