Psychotherapy and Relationship Counselling

Based in South London and Ipswich, Suffolk

About Me

My name is Mark Fielding and I have been a practising psychotherapist for the past 16 years. I am committed to providing counselling and psychotherapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. I work with both individuals, couples and groups on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of enabling you to enhance your life and to live it more fully.

I started working in private practice around 16 years ago. I have also worked as a Senior Harassment Advisor and Supervisor to the Harassment Advisory Team for a West London Foundation Trust Hospital and more recently as a Relationship Counsellor for Relate. I have previously worked as an NHS manager and also in different roles supporting adults with learning difficulties.

How I work

I am trained to use different approaches to meet the individual needs of clients and couples. These include psychodynamic (looking at the past and how it is affecting us today), systemic (looking at patterns in relationships), mindfulness (paying attention to our thoughts 'in the moment') and positive psychology (research based techniques to increase happiness and resilience). My therapeutic approach is very down to earth which I hope puts my clients at ease.

Neurodiversity

I have worked as a one to one counsellor and relationship counsellor to many neurodivergent clients over the years – such as clients with Tourette’s, Autism, ADHD, and PDA, for instance. I have a great deal of experience in this area and welcome neurodivergent individuals and couples. I am a neuroaffirmative therapist

I am a registered practitioner on the Neuro-affirmative Practitioners Directory. See my Neuro-affirmative practitioners directory here.

I also have a particular interest in working with HSPs (highly sensitive people). Please take a look at the Podcast page to see my vlog on HSPs.

Please see the Neurodivergent Couple's Counselling page, and the ADHD Coaching page.

Gender, Sexual and Relationship Diversity (GSRD)

I have worked with many LGBTQI+ clients and welcome both individuals and couples from the LGBTQI+ community.

I am experienced in working with clients wishing to explore their gender identity.

I have worked with many individuals and couples practicing ethical non-monogamy. This may be in a polyamorous model or another relationship model other than monogamy.

What can counselling help with?

Over the last 16 years I have worked with most problems that people can experience, such as but not limited to:

Generalised anxiety

Social anxiety

Depression

Couples counselling

Attachment issues

Bullying

Loss

Relationship issues

Family issues

Highly sensitive people

"We came to Mark after having problems within our marriage, we would argue or ignore each other in times of conflict, not knowing where to turn As a last resort to save our marriage, we looked into having couples counselling sessions. We found Mark to be the ideal counsellor and never looked back once meeting him"

"We experienced Mark as very patient, non-judgemental, warm and a good listener. His guidance was more than we could ever have asked for. Mark allowed us to work through all of our problems and instead of running away from each other, now turn towards each other to communicate in a way that brings us closer and helped save our marriage"

"Mark was extremely helpful to me and I recommend his service very highly. He is caring, open and a fantastic listener. Mark is very knowledgable about a wide range of psychotherapeutic approaches and applies them with great sensitivity and insight”

My location

Please contact me if you would like to book an appointment or have any queries you'd like to discuss. My practice is based in Clapham Common, South London and Ipswich and Colchester, Suffolk.

I am currently offering online sessions via Zoom or sessions by telephone and also some face to face sessions in Ipswich. I have worked online with clients for many years and find Zoom or voice only to be a very effective medium for therapy. Online work is not suitable for everyone though and we would need to assess if it would adequately meet your needs.
